ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
Africa boasts more varieties of big game than any other continent. Almost all these animals have very different "kill zones," but knowing where to place a killing shot (the most importan criterion in hunting is bewildering to even an experienced African hunter. Kevin Robertson, a PH and veterinarian from South Africa, has created the most comprehensive work ever undertaken to show the anatomical features for all classes of African game—from elephant and buffalo to the large cats to the antelopes to the smallest game animals (duiker and warthog). Each animal is shown in a color field picture as well as a color "ghost view" that illustrate the shoulder bones, heart, lungs, and brain, allowing you to see precisely where to place your shot. The invaluable natural history section on each animal contains trophy assessment hints as well as how to determine the sex of an animal. Other chapters include caliber and bullet selection, rifle selection, trophy handling, and basic animal anatomy. This great reference work is a must-have for your next safari.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
Kevin Doctari Robertson is one of Africa’s best-known authors and the originator of the idea of showing a “ghost view” of the vital organs on African big game. His books have sold tens of thousands of copies. In this brand-new book with all original materials, Doctari has produced the most comprehensive guide to shot placement for the African buffalo. He talks about his favorite calibers, what constitutes a good trophy, and when a buffalo should not be shot. He talks of hunting the cow buffalo, equally as dangerous as a bull, and he gives us his views and insights into various rifle types and bullets. Many books on African hunting profess to deal with it all, but Robertson focuses on only one subject—buffalo. In fact he deals with only one subspecies of the African buffalo—the Cape or southern buffalo, the largest of the subspecies and the one with the meanest and most ferocious reputation. This book, his first since he wrote his best seller, The Perfect Shot, over ten years ago, has it all: the African tracker, bow hunting, caliber choices, picking the right bullet (a very interesting subject and well covered), selecting rifle sights, trophy evaluation, anatomical features, differences between bulls and cows in the field, distribution and natural history, hunting accessories, and more. All of it has been illustrated with some of the most magnificent Cape buffalo photographs ever seen by world-class wildlife photographer Catherine Robertson. No African hunter will want to be without this book.

ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
Much has been said in recent years about shooting only completely mature, solidly bossed Cape or southern buffalo bulls for trophy purposes. But what does such a bull really look like? Can you tell the difference between a trophy bull and a younger or medium-age bull with soft bosses that still has breeding potential? What are the characteristics of a true trophy bull? The questions most commonly asked on a buffalo safari are a) “What sex is that buffalo?” b) “How old is it?” c) “Where do I shoot it?” and d) “How big is the trophy?” All the answers are here in this compact, pocket-size book that not only gives you instant comparisons but also shows you precisely where to shoot and what the trophy is like, age- and size-wise.
There are probably more African buffaloes hunted today than at any time since WWII, for they are the most accessible and affordable member of the fabled Big Five. Make the most of your hunt and get to know beforehand what a good, mature buffalo looks like, where to shoot it, and how to judge its sex, age, and trophy potential before you follow their tracks and come face to face with a tangle of horns and a press of dark bodies in thick vegetation. That’s when you’ll need to make a quick decision, and this invaluable, fit-in-any-pocket guide will help! Don’t go on safari without one!

ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
Doctari (aka Kevin Robertson) is well known for his superlative series of books on shot placement, including Nyati, The Perfect Shot, and Africa’s Most Dangerous, which is a complete dissertation on the Cape buffalo that also includes shot placement. These books have become classics in their time because of the authority, the experience, and the descriptive powers Doctari has brought to each project. They simply could not have been written by just anyone: These books were the culmination of Kevin’s experience as a PH for years upon years in the bush, his knowledge of veterinary medicine, and his understanding of ballistics. Some of his experiences come from having hunted with multiple clients for dangerous game, and over the years he has had a number of funny, interesting, and sad encounters. Now for the first time ever, Doctari has committed these stories to paper, and we get to read some of the silly things he, his friends, and his clients have done. We guarantee these anecdotes will keep you entertained for hours. There are two particularly lively stories on the ferocity of lion running amuck in a safari camp. One is entitled “Madonna,” and in it Kevin defends his and his wife’s honor with a bottle of Johnson’s Baby Shampoo! He’s actually lucky to be alive to tell the tale. In the chapter entitled “Like a Ghost in the Darkness,” an old lion wrecks mayhem in a camp inhabited by two drunken hunters, who flee the scene without taking any of their gear. There was good reason, indeed, for their fear. In the chapter “Dumber Still” we learn that chasing a bull elephant from your garden with an empty soda-pop bottle is not to be recommended, even for a PH well versed in big-game hunting. “Jump Buck” is the lively story of a wounded springbok that races off with a very expensive rifle wrapped around its neck! It’s always refreshing to sit down with a good book that is full of wonderful stories; some things in life just don’t get any better. Pull up a chair and read along as Doctari relates his stories as though they are being told around a campfire in a safari camp. This is one book you will not easily forget.
